Wedding in Lake Como

Lake Como is one of Europe's most polished wedding destinations. The lake is hemmed in by mountains to the north and villa gardens along its shores, with each village (Bellagio, Varenna, Como, Tremezzo) keeping its own rhythm. The style is classic Italian lakeside elegance, more restrained than the Amalfi Coast. Couples who send us a brief about Lake Como state a median budget of around 60,000 EUR for 50 guests (5 couples, January to 18 October 2026). Five couples is a small group, and a single wedding can cost less or more.

Como has two broad tiers of venues. The famous villas and grand hotels are the names many couples know first; they book early for peak dates and many set their own rules on days, times and guest numbers, so ask before you plan around one. The second tier covers family-owned villas, hotels and restaurants in the smaller villages, where the lake views can be just as good.

Legal or symbolic. A legally valid civil wedding is performed by the comune in the places it has set aside for it, and some historic villas are among them: Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo states on its private events page that a civil wedding can be celebrated on its Terrazza delle Camelie, and it also offers symbolic ceremonies. Foreign nationals need a nulla osta under article 116 of the Italian Civil Code, a statement that nothing in their own country's law prevents the marriage, and documents issued abroad need an apostille and an Italian translation. Boat transport is part of the charm. Ceremony in one village, aperitivo on the water, dinner in another: private water taxis make it possible. Bellagio and Varenna work well as bases for guests because public ferries link the villages in the middle of the lake. Como city is more urban and the easiest place for last-minute errands.

Season runs May to October. July and August are the busiest months. September and early October deliver the classic Como atmosphere, hazy mornings and clear afternoon light.
