Quick answer: how much couples budget for a wedding in Italy
62 couples who chose Italy in a brief sent to us between January and 18 October 2026 gave a median budget of EUR 20,100. Half of them fell between EUR 13,800 and EUR 30,000, the median guest count was 50 and the budget per guest about EUR 446. A budget is what the couple wrote before receiving any quote, not an invoice. The single biggest swing is whether you cover guests' accommodation. Ask for itemised quotes for your date and guest list.
Cost is a central question for a wedding in Italy, and a hard one to get a straight answer to. Planner blogs quote enormous ranges and every quote feels impossible to verify. This guide shows what couples who sent us a brief actually budgeted, explains which costs are fixed and which grow with guest count, why guest accommodation is the biggest variable and what a legitimate quote should itemise, so you can price your own wedding instead of trusting a vague figure.
Cost per guest tends to fall as guest count rises because many costs (venue, coordinator, photography, DJ) are fixed regardless of headcount.
What 62 couples budgeted for a wedding in Italy
The figures below come from briefs couples sent us between January and 18 October 2026. Each couple is counted once, with their latest brief, and demo and test briefs are removed. For groups of fewer than five couples we show the count only, because a median of two or three budgets tells you nothing.

These are our own data, budgets couples wrote to us themselves, and a real wedding can cost less than the lowest or more than the highest figure shown.
The budget per guest falls from EUR 500 in the 21-50 group to EUR 359 in the 51-100 group, which is consistent with fixed costs being spread over more people. The curve is not clean, though: the smallest weddings, up to 20 guests, sit at EUR 400 per guest, and that rests on only seven couples. Read it as a direction, not a rule.
By the region the couple chose in the form

Half of the Tuscany couples fell between EUR 16,750 and EUR 26,800. The couples who chose Lake Como gave a median budget about three times that of the Tuscany couples, with half between EUR 35,670 and EUR 75,000, but that is only five couples. No couple chose Umbria.
What really drives the cost: guest accommodation
A common objection goes: "so many vendors cost the same no matter the headcount." That is true, and it is the whole point. Fixed costs (venue, coordinator, photography, ceremony music) barely change whether you are 30 or 60. Variable costs (food, drink, seating, accommodation) scale with headcount. The single biggest swing is accommodation. Let guests pay for their own rooms and your per-guest cost drops sharply; pay for a villa where everyone sleeps and that line can become the largest in the whole budget.
We cannot show this with our own figures yet. Our form only recently started asking whether guests will stay at the venue, and we have too few answers for Italy to report anything.
Tuscany, Amalfi Coast or Lake Como: the region moves the budget
The choice of region shows up in the budgets above. The Lake Como couples budgeted about three times as much as the Tuscany couples with a similar guest count, so headcount does not explain the gap. Objections and what a legitimate quote includes
"That much for an intimate wedding?!" Yes, that can be right, and it is not about luxury. In Italy many supplier costs are fixed, and Italian VAT (IVA) of 22 % is added. An intimate wedding is therefore not proportionally cheap: you spread the fixed costs over fewer guests.
"Planners quoted wildly different numbers." A legitimate quote itemises venue, catering per cover, drinks, coordinator fee, photography, flowers, music, furniture and technical hire, and VAT. A quote that gives only a lump sum with no breakdown is hard to compare. Always ask for the line items spelled out.
