Venue & style
Where you marry and how it looks – four guides on destination, venue, beach weddings and photographer.
Once your timeline and legal questions are sorted, the fun part begins: where will you actually stand when you say "I do," and what will it look like? This guide cluster takes you from a vague idea ("somewhere Mediterranean, ideally with a sea view, no more than three hours by plane") to a concrete venue you can book.
We start broad with the destinations guide – a comparison of the most popular countries for international couples, from Italy and Greece to Mauritius and Sri Lanka, and what each destination does best. Then we narrow into the venue guide: the difference between a private villa, a castle, a hotel and a restaurant in price, flexibility and practical delivery. The third guide is specifically for those who want a beach wedding – the best beaches, permits, wind and rain backups, guest dress code and what sand actually does to a dress and shoes. Finally, the photographer guide helps you choose the right visual style and understand the difference between hiring locally and flying someone in.
Together these four guides take you from "where should we go?" to a concrete shortlist of venues, photographer briefs and an aesthetic direction you trust.
How do we choose a destination and venue for our wedding abroad?
Start with your style and budget rather than the country: do you want a villa, a castle or a beach? How many guests, and how far are you willing to ask them to fly? Use the destinations guide to shortlist 3 candidate countries, then read the venue guide to understand price and delivery per venue type, and book a site visit or video call with 2–3 venues before you commit. A local photographer often costs half of one flown in from home – but only if the style matches.
