Short answer
You can marry legally in Turkey at the municipality where the wedding takes place, with a certificate of no impediment that is apostilled and translated into Turkish at a notary, plus a health report. Or you can hold a symbolic ceremony there and marry legally at home. Fourteen couples sent us a Turkey brief between 24 March and 14 October 2026. Their median budget is 8,350 EUR, half of them plan for 15 guests or fewer, and those who named a region chose the Antalya coast, Bodrum or Cappadocia. Eleven of the fourteen want a date in April to June or September to October.
What this guide is built on
Fourteen briefs for Turkey, sent to us between 24 March and 14 October 2026, one per couple, with test entries removed. Seven came through our Polish site and three through the Lithuanian and Latvian ones; the rest came from Sweden, France, Portugal and the English site. We see what couples write before any quote has been requested, so a budget here is what they plan to spend, not what a wedding costs. Add ten to twenty per cent to get close to the final figure.
The legal section follows the requirements that one Turkish municipality, Kuşadası, publishes for foreign nationals. The weather figures are long-term averages from the Turkish State Meteorological Service.
Legal or symbolic
A legal wedding is applied for at the municipality where you marry. Kuşadası lists what foreign nationals need:
- A certificate of no impediment from your home country, apostilled and translated into Turkish at a notary. If your country issues it in a multilingual format, no approval or translation is needed in Turkey. If it was issued by your country's consulate in Turkey, it must be approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or by the governorate of the province where the consulate is.
- A birth certificate, translated into Turkish at your consulate in Turkey or at a Turkish notary.
- Your passport, translated at a notary.
- A health report. The municipality's registry office issues the paperwork for it.
- Five passport photos each.
- If you do not speak Turkish, a notary interpreter must be with you at the wedding.
Two rules on the same page decide the timing. Documents from an honorary consulate are not accepted, and every document is valid for only six months from the date it was issued. Order the papers too early and they expire before the wedding. Each municipality runs its own marriage office, so confirm the list with the one where you will marry.

A symbolic ceremony has no legal effect. You marry at home before or after, and the Turkish list above does not apply, because no Turkish authority marries you. That leaves you free to choose the place, the hour and who leads the ceremony. The trade-offs are in our guide to symbolic and legal weddings abroad.
Only one of the fourteen briefs says which of the two the couple wants. A supplier cannot plan the translations, the interpreter or the municipal appointment without knowing.
Where couples look
Eight of the fourteen couples named a region. Nobody chose Istanbul, although it is one of the four regions on our Turkey page.
| Region | Couples | Guests | Budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antalya and the Turkish Riviera | 3 | 20-150 | 4,640-20,000 EUR |
| Bodrum and the Aegean coast | 3 | 30-110 | 8,000-20,000 EUR |
| Cappadocia | 2 | 14-15 | 8,000-9,280 EUR |
| No region given | 6 | 4-150 | 2,000-9,280 EUR |
What separates them is the size of the party. Both Cappadocia couples plan for about fifteen guests, while three of the four parties of a hundred or more chose a coast. If you have not decided, say so in the brief and say what matters most to you: the sea, the landscape, or getting a large group to one place.
Two kinds of wedding in one median
The median budget across all fourteen is 8,350 EUR, from 2,000 to 20,000 EUR. That one figure hides two different groups.
| Party | Couples | Median guests | Median budget | Per guest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4-30 guests | 10 | 12 | 7,480 EUR | about 630 EUR |
| 100-150 guests | 4 | - | - | - |
Ten couples plan a small wedding at about 630 EUR a guest. Four plan a large one of 100 to 150 guests, too few for us to give a median, and in a party that size the money is spread over far more heads. Neither is wrong, but a supplier reading a budget for more than a hundred guests has to know what you expect it to cover. Only one of the fourteen briefs says whether the guests sleep on site and whether that is inside the budget. Our guide on who pays for the guests' accommodation helps you decide before you write.
Season
Eleven of the fourteen want April to June or September to October. One names November, one "summer or autumn", and one has not decided. Nobody asks for July or August alone. The long-term averages show why.
| Month | Antalya, average high | Antalya, rainy days | Nevşehir (Cappadocia), average high | Nevşehir, rainy days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May | 25.7 °C | 5.2 | 20.6 °C | 12.9 |
| June | 30.8 °C | 2.5 | 24.9 °C | 8.1 |
| July | 34.2 °C | 0.5 | 28.5 °C | 2.3 |
| August | 34.1 °C | 0.6 | 28.7 °C | 1.7 |
| September | 31.2 °C | 1.7 | 24.5 °C | 3.4 |
| October | 26.6 °C | 5.4 | 18.3 °C | 7.0 |
On the coast, July and August average above 34 °C in the afternoon, and June and September are still above 30 °C, so an evening ceremony is kinder to your guests than a midday one. In Cappadocia, May brings more rain than any other month, with about 13 rainy days. September has about three, with the same average high as June. Evenings there are cool: the September average low is 10.5 °C, so plan heating or an indoor fallback for an outdoor dinner.

What a brief should say
Eight of the fourteen couples left the message field empty, and the six who wrote something used between two and twenty-three words. Two mention the sea, two the dinner, one a legal wedding and one the rooms. Without a message a supplier sees a destination, a date, a guest count and a budget, and has to guess the rest. A guess can only be answered with a generic offer.
Five lines are enough:
- Legal or symbolic. If legal, say whether you want help with the translations, the health report and the notary interpreter.
- Where, or what you want from the place. A region, or "open, by the sea", or "open, landscape rather than beach".
- When. A month, and whether you can move by a week or a month.
- Who. Adults and children, and whether everyone stays where you marry.
- What the budget covers. Ceremony and dinner only, or the guests' rooms too, and who pays for them.
An example: "Symbolic ceremony, we marry at home first. Bodrum or anywhere on the Aegean coast. Mid-September 2027, a week either way. 30 adults and 4 children; the guests book and pay for their own rooms. The budget covers the ceremony, dinner, photographer and music."
