Phu Quoc has its own international airport, and guests from Europe usually connect in Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Singapore or a Gulf hub. The island has its own visa rule: foreign visitors who travel only to Phu Quoc can stay up to 30 days without a visa, while a trip that continues to the mainland needs the normal entry permission for your passport. The wedding style is new resort luxury. Large resorts on the west coast and in the south of the island host beach ceremonies with the dinner and the rooms on the same property, and several have infinity pools and terraces facing the sunset over the Gulf of Thailand. Prices vary widely with the resort, the date and the guest count, so ask for a written quote with your own date.
For something smaller, local coordinators arrange beach ceremonies on quieter stretches of coast, such as Ong Lang on the west coast or Bai Sao in the south-east. Ask what facilities the beach has, how guests get there and back, and what happens to the plan if it rains.
Legal or symbolic. In Vietnam a marriage is registered by the local People's Committee, and the system is set up for couples where at least one partner is Vietnamese or holds a Vietnamese residence permit. Season. The drier months on Phu Quoc run from around November to April, with calm seas on the west coast. From around May to October the south-west monsoon brings frequent heavy showers and rougher water, so keep a covered plan if you choose those months.
Insider tips for Phu Quoc
- A cable car runs from An Thoi in the south across the sea to Hon Thom island. It makes a good guest excursion on a clear day.
- Bai Sao in the south-east is one of the island’s best-known beaches. Combine it with a visit to the An Thoi islands.
- Pearls are a local industry, and the shops in Duong Dong sell them; they make a good gift for the wedding party.
- The night market in Duong Dong serves fresh seafood and makes a relaxed welcome evening for guests.
- If guests want to combine the wedding with the mainland, remind them that the island’s visa exemption does not cover onward travel in Vietnam.
