Vietnam
Phu Quoc is Vietnam's largest island, sitting in the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian coast. It remains one of Asia's least-developed premium destinations: white beaches, clear water and a growing portfolio of five-star resorts but without the tourist density of Phuket or Bantayan. For couples seeking tropical seclusion without flying all the way to the Maldives, Phu Quoc is an ascending choice.
Travel time from London is 15-18 hours - no direct flights, with a connection in Bangkok, Singapore or Ho Chi Minh City. Phu Quoc has its own international airport, opened in 2012 and expanded in 2018. Visa-free 30 days for Phu Quoc only (the island's special rule - if you travel to the mainland a normal visa is required). It is one of the few places in Asia still actively building new product; resorts like JW Marriott Emerald Bay opened in 2017.
The wedding style is new resort luxury. JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay (designed by Bill Bensley), InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach and Premier Village Phu Quoc are the three leading addresses. JW Marriott is extraordinary with its Lamarck University theme (a fictional reimagined zoological university), 244 rooms and a private beach. Wedding packages from around EUR 20,000 for 20 guests, including a ceremony on Emerald Bay beach, photographer and dinner.
Phu Quoc is also infinity-pool territory. Resorts such as Premier Residences and Sun Premier Village have infinity pools that bleed into the sea, perfect ceremony platforms. Local coordinators including Phu Quoc Wedding and VietnamWeddingPlanner.com arrange private beach ceremonies on the more secluded northern beaches (Bai Sao, Ong Lang) from around EUR 7,000 for 15 guests.
Season: November to March is the dry season at 25-30C with low humidity. April to October is wet season with daily afternoon rain - avoid these months for outdoor ceremonies. June to September is the worst with typhoon risk. Legal marriage requires the same apostille process as the rest of Vietnam - a week and around EUR 600 with a local coordinator.
Couples dreaming of tropical beach wedding
50 000 - 150 000 kr
Long Beach (west) for sunsets. Bai Sao has Vietnam's whitest sand.
We recommend Phu Quoc for couples who want tropical seclusion without Maldives pricing. 15-40 guests works best. November to February is optimal. JW Marriott for design, InterContinental for value. Add a dive or snorkel in the An Thoi archipelago. Underrated marine life.
