Wedding in Krabi

Thailand

Why choose Krabi for your wedding?

Krabi province is Thailand's natural showpiece. Here it is not the resort architecture that stars but the landscape itself: limestone cliffs rising 200 metres straight out of turquoise water, narrow white beaches reachable only by longtail boat, and caves where couples can exchange vows surrounded by stalactites. Ao Nang is the natural base, but the most spectacular ceremony locations sit on the Railay peninsula, accessible only by sea.

Travel time from London is around 13-15 hours via Bangkok or Doha with one stop. Krabi has its own international airport, so you skip the Phuket transfer. Bear in mind that site visits and planning trips need a little more logistics here. Wedding planners are fewer and less industrial than in Phuket or Samui, which is both the charm and the challenge.

Weddings in Krabi - style, venues and atmosphere

Krabi weddings are about the landscape. Rayavadee, Phulay Bay (Ritz-Carlton Reserve) and Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi are the three big players, all with wedding teams that have produced hundreds of cliff ceremonies. Rayavadee's signature ceremony takes place on Phra Nang Beach between the limestone towers. Budget EUR 18,000-30,000 for 20 guests with ceremony, photographer and dinner inside their natural-cave Grotto restaurant.

For the more adventurous, longtail weddings are a brilliant option. Local coordinators such as Hello Krabi Wedding and Krabi Beach Weddings arrange private ceremonies on Poda Island, Tup Island or Hong Island with boat transfers for up to 40 guests. Cost: EUR 6,000-12,000 including boats, decoration, ceremony and a Thai lunch buffet on the beach. This is the route if you want a whole island to yourselves for the day.

The seasons are critical in Krabi. November to April is the dry season and the only sensible window. During the monsoon (May to October) longtail traffic to the islands is often cancelled and beaches are closed for safety. December to February has the best visibility and water clarity but the highest tourist density on Phra Nang. If you want the cliffs to yourselves, charter a private longtail at 6:30 am for a sunrise ceremony. Fewer than five tourists are present at that hour. Visa-free 30 days, legal marriage requires the same Bangkok process as elsewhere in Thailand.

Insider tips for Krabi

  • Phra Nang Beach houses the 'Princess Cave', a Thai fertility shrine with phallic carvings. Charming or awkward depending on the mood. Discuss angles with the photographer.
  • Railay is reachable only by longtail from Ao Nang. Around 15 minutes and EUR 6 per person each way. Reserve boats for guests in advance.
  • Climbing enthusiasts: Krabi has world-class limestone. Add a post-wedding climbing day for adventurous friends via Real Rocks Climbing.
  • Local Muslim traditions are strong in Krabi and alcohol is not served everywhere. Confirm with the rehearsal-dinner restaurant in advance.
  • Em Beach and Tonsai Beach are lesser-known alternatives to Railay. Fewer people, the same limestone landscape, often half the price.

Our recommendation for Krabi

We recommend Krabi for couples who prioritise drama over comfort. 8-25 guests is the ideal size. Book Rayavadee if budget allows, Centara Grand if you want something more mainstream. December to March is optimal. Add a longtail trip to the Hong Islands for the wedding portrait. World-class results.
