Thailand
Koh Samui is Phuket's quieter sister island in the Gulf of Thailand. The island is smaller, greener and more boutique in character. There is no club strip on a Patong scale here, instead coconut groves, fishing villages and a handful of five-star resorts that have long been favourites with honeymooners and wedding couples.
Accessibility has improved in recent years. Bangkok Airways flies direct from Bangkok several times a day, and total travel time from London via BKK is around 14-15 hours. Visa-free 30-day entry applies as it does for the rest of Thailand. What makes Samui special for weddings is Chaweng Noi and Choeng Mon on the east coast, plus Maenam and Bophut on the north side, all offering sunrises over the Gulf and softer light than the Andaman afternoon glare.
The wedding style on Samui is more intimate than Phuket's. The major players are Four Seasons Koh Samui at Laem Yai, Six Senses Samui at Choeng Mon and Banyan Tree Samui at Lamai, all 20-60 villa estates with private pools and dedicated wedding planners. Package prices start around EUR 9,000 for a symbolic ceremony with 10 guests and rise to EUR 35,000+ for a full Six Senses multi-day production.
What we find charming about Samui is the secret-beach ceremony. Resorts such as Tongsai Bay and Santiburi have private beaches not open to the public, so you can plan the ceremony without a surfer cutting through the vows. The northern stretch around Bophut Fisherman's Village has also developed a charming boho restaurant scene, with venues like The Shack Beach Bar and Coco Tam's available for private hire from around EUR 2,000 plus food and drink.
The climate differs from Phuket. Samui's best months are January to April and July to August. The long tropical monsoon falls October to December when heavy rain can make the beaches unsafe. December is popular with Europeans but short showers are common. Many UK and Northern European couples book February or March for the most reliable weather. A legally binding ceremony requires the same Bangkok embassy process as Phuket; nearly everyone goes symbolic and registers at home.
Couples who want intimate tropical wedding
45 000 - 175 000
Chaweng är livligast, Bophut och Maenam lugnare. Big Buddha-templet erbjuder fantastisk utsikt.
We recommend Koh Samui for couples who want Thai luxury without the big-resort feel. 10-30 guests is the sweet spot. Choose Choeng Mon or Laem Yai for calm, Bophut for the restaurant scene. February to March is the safest weather window. Six Senses and Four Seasons deliver consistently; Tongsai Bay is the value pick.
