Thailand
Phuket is Thailand's largest island and, without question, the country's most established destination for international weddings. Since the early 2000s, more than 3,000 international couples per year have chosen the west coast beaches for their ceremonies, and the infrastructure shows it: English-speaking wedding planners, photographers who shoot for European broadcasters, and catering teams that handle both Thai fusion and classic Western menus.
What we like about Phuket is the scale. You can book anything from a micro-elopement for two at a hidden Kamala villa to a three-day event for 80 guests on Surin Beach with fireworks over the Andaman Sea. Direct flights from London Heathrow to Phuket run seasonally with Eva Air and British Airways; from Frankfurt and Amsterdam there are connections via Bangkok, Doha or Singapore. From Sydney, Jetstar and Thai Airways operate direct routes. Total travel time lands at 12-14 hours from London, 9 hours from Sydney. Visa-free entry for most Western passport holders for up to 30 days.
Phuket's wedding style splits clearly between two poles. On the west coast (Patong, Kata, Karon, Surin, Bang Tao) the large resort weddings dominate. Here you find names like Trisara, Amanpuri, The Surin and Banyan Tree Phuket, all with dedicated wedding teams that have produced hundreds of ceremonies. The standard package includes a symbolic beach ceremony at sunset (around 5:30 pm in high season), a floral arch, musicians, two hours of photography and dinner on the beach or in the resort's fine-dining outlet. Budget EUR 12,000-25,000 for 20 guests at four-star level, roughly double for the Aman tier.
For the more private alternative, villa rentals in Cape Yamu, Layan or Naithon are the answer. Platforms such as Phuket Villas and Inspiring Travel Company offer entire estates with private chef, butler and pool from EUR 2,500-8,000 per night. This is the route to take if you want to set your own pace: no 6 pm check-in, no other guests, and a coordinator planning three dinners rather than just the ceremony itself.
Pay attention to the seasons. November to March is the dry season and the obvious choice: low humidity, still evenings, sunny 30C days. April and May are scorching (35+), June to October is monsoon with heavy afternoon rain and bigger swells. Many resorts offer 30-40% off in low season, but you need a solid indoor backup. A legally binding Thai wedding requires paperwork through your home country's embassy in Bangkok in advance, so the vast majority of international couples opt for a symbolic ceremony in Phuket and register the marriage at home.
Couples who want luxury and convenience
55 000 - 230 000
Kata och Nai Harn är lugnare än Patong. Ölägenheter kan organiseras med lite planering.
We recommend Phuket for couples who want established infrastructure and don't need to reinvent the wheel. Book the west coast November to March, choose a resort if you have 20+ guests, a villa if you want it intimate. Trisara, The Surin and Cape Sienna are proven suppliers with English-speaking teams.
