Spain
Marbella is the glamour capital of the Costa del Sol and has been the wedding destination of European old money for 50 years. Puerto Banus, Marbella Old Town and Benahavis are the three areas hosting most weddings. The style is poolside luxury: white marble halls, infinity pools, palms and chandeliers.
There is more infrastructure here than in Spain's more rustic regions - top golf resorts, Michelin restaurants, international hospitals and Malaga airport with direct flights from London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam. Budget EUR 30,000 to 70,000 for 60 guests. The season runs longer than in other Spanish regions - weddings happen from March to November.
Marbella's wedding industry revolves around resort hotels. Marbella Club, Puente Romano, Don Carlos and Anantara Villa Padierna are the four big names - all with dedicated wedding teams, ceremonies on the beach or in the gardens, and capacity for 100+ guests. Wedding package hire: EUR 25,000 to 60,000.
For private villas, the La Zagaleta estate in Benahavis is the gold reserve - Europe's most expensive villa community with security gates and views over Gibraltar. Villas there rent for EUR 20,000 to 40,000 per week and host 50 to 80 guests.
Golf weddings are popular here: Finca Cortesin, Villa Padierna Golf and Las Brisas combine ceremony with a golf day the next morning. Worth knowing for guests who appreciate the package.
Stylistically, Marbella weddings are traditionally formal - black tie or dark suits for dinner, classic floral arrangements, a dance floor with both live band and DJ. The Spanish element is understated; this feels more like an international luxury wedding than a rustic Spanish one. Civil weddings are performed at the Marbella Ayuntamiento. April to June and September to October are optimal; July and August are hot but workable thanks to the sea breeze.
Couples who want luxury and accessibility
175 000 - 460 000
Puerto Banús is most glamorous. Golden Mile offers the best luxury hotels. Golf is popular for day activities.
We recommend Marbella for couples who want a classic luxury wedding experience with 60 to 120 guests and resort comforts. Choose Marbella Club for historic prestige, Puente Romano for an updated style. Not the right pick for couples seeking rustic authenticity.
