There is more infrastructure here than in Spain's more rustic regions - golf resorts, fine restaurants and Málaga airport, which has flights from much of Europe. Too few couples have sent us a Marbella brief to quote a budget figure; ask venues for a written quote with your date and guest count. The mild climate gives a longer season than in much of Spain, with spring and autumn the most comfortable months.

Marbella's wedding industry revolves around resort hotels with wedding teams, ceremonies on the beach or in the gardens, and space for larger parties. Marbella Club is one beachfront hotel that hosts weddings in its gardens and by the sea. Ask any resort what its wedding package includes, the minimum guest count and the finishing time for music.
For private villas, the hills behind the coast around Benahavís have gated estates with views over the sea. Ask how many guests a villa may host for an event, as opposed to how many it sleeps, and what its rules are on noise.
Golf is part of the appeal here: several resorts combine a wedding weekend with a round for guests the next morning. Worth knowing for guests who appreciate the package.
Stylistically, Marbella weddings are often formal - dark suits for dinner, classic floral arrangements, a dance floor with both live band and DJ. This feels more like an international resort wedding than a rustic Spanish one.
Legal or symbolic. A civil wedding in Spain starts with a marriage file (expediente) handled by the civil registry of the place where one of you is domiciled, and if you live abroad the file may be handled by a Spanish consulate, according to the Spanish government's page on marriage. April to June and September to October are the best months; July and August are hot, so plan the ceremony for the evening.

- Ask each resort for an itemised wedding package: what is included, the minimum guest count and the price for extra hours.
- For a religious ceremony in your own language, ask the church or minister directly before you fix a date; the resort cannot arrange it on its own.
- Negotiate on resort catering where you can, and get the final menu and drinks package in writing.
