Mallorca is one of Spain's most accessible island wedding destinations - Palma airport has flights from much of Europe, with the most routes in the summer season, and the island has an established wedding industry with planners who work in English. Palma, Deià, Sóller and Pollença are good starting points, each with a distinct character.
The style is Mediterranean finca: stone walls, olive trees, pools at the edge of the mountains. Too few couples have sent us a Mallorca brief to quote a budget figure; ask venues for a written quote with your date and guest count. The north-west of the island (the Serra de Tramuntana mountains) is dramatic; the east coast is more beach-focused.
Weddings in Mallorca - style, venues and atmosphere
Mallorca has a deep base of private fincas - farms converted into venues, often hired for the whole day or weekend. Ask each one how many guests it can take for an event, how many it sleeps, and what its rules are on music and finishing times.
The hotel side ranges from historic buildings in and around Palma to country hotels in the mountains. Palma is the city option for couples who want short transfers from the airport and a choice of restaurants for the days around the wedding.
Deià is the artists' village in the Tramuntana, with mountain and sea views. Pollença in the north has an old town with cobbled streets. The east coast is beach territory.
Legal or symbolic. A civil wedding in Spain starts with a marriage file (expediente) handled by the civil registry of the place where one of you is domiciled, and if you live abroad the file may be handled by a Spanish consulate, according to the Spanish government's page on marriage. Ask before you assume a civil ceremony on the island is possible for you. Many couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony at the finca. July and August work, but the island's tourist peak makes logistics harder.
Insider tips for Mallorca
- Choose a planner who works on the island regularly and ask for references from couples who married there.
- Book your finca early if you want a Saturday in May or September; ask each venue how far ahead its weekends fill.
- Hire a coach for guest transport between Palma and the Tramuntana: the mountain roads are narrow and winding, especially at night.
- Order flowers from a florist on the island rather than shipping them in; ask what is in season for your date.
- Mallorca has its own wineries: a vineyard visit makes a good guest outing the day before the wedding.
