The figures below use Tuscany and Umbria, the most-requested zone. Puglia, Sicily and the Amalfi Coast run a couple of degrees hotter and hold their season further into October - more on that below.

Avoid mid-August: heat and Ferragosto
Two reasons make mid-August the worst window for an Italian wedding. The first is the heat: the last week of July and the first two weeks of August are the hottest stretch of the year, often 35 degrees or more inland in Tuscany. A midday outdoor ceremony becomes uncomfortable for you and your guests, and older relatives cope with it worst.
The second is Ferragosto, the Italian public holiday on 15 August. Around that date much of Italy shuts down - restaurants, family-run suppliers and even some venues take one to two weeks off. That means fewer available photographers, florists and coordinators, and those who do work often add a holiday surcharge. It is also peak season for domestic travel, so flights and hotels for your guests get pricier and harder to book.
Region by region: the best month is not the same everywhere
There is no single perfect month for all of Italy - it depends on the region. Tuscany and Umbria are the coolest and peak in late May to June and in September. The Amalfi Coast and Lake Como follow roughly the same pattern but stay comfortable a little further into October, because the sea and the lake even out the temperature.
Puglia and Sicily in the south are a different matter: June is already hot there and July-August is brutal, but in return the good season stretches longer - all of October is often warm and stable down there. Two pieces of advice that no longer hold
"Spring is always safe." The old advice that May is the safe weather month no longer holds as well. The climate has become more unpredictable and in recent years May, especially early May, has seen more rainy and cool spells. Late May is safer than early May, but if you want low rain risk on paper, June and September are still the surest bets.
"We will take September, it is quieter." On the contrary - September books out first. Precisely because so many couples want to flee the August heat, September has become the most-requested shoulder-season month, and the best villas and suppliers are often gone 12-18 months ahead. If you want September, you need to move early. If you are flexible, early October gives almost the same weather with better availability.
