Jamaica
Montego Bay is Jamaica's largest tourist destination and the simplest entry point into Caribbean weddings for international couples. Sangster International Airport sits 5 minutes from the resort hotels, making Montego Bay the most practical wedding destination in the entire Caribbean from a transport perspective. The coastal strip between airport and town, known as the Hip Strip, houses the majority of all-inclusive resorts and has the highest concentration of wedding-specialist hotels in Jamaica.
Direct flights from London Gatwick to Montego Bay run with British Airways and TUI, taking around 10 hours. New York travellers fly in 4 hours, Toronto in 4 hours direct, Sydney in 25 hours via Los Angeles or Miami. No visa is required for British, American, Canadian or Australian visitors, who receive 90 days at entry. The best wedding season is December to April, with drier weather. Hurricane season runs June to November, peaking August to October.
Montego Bay's wedding scene is dominated entirely by Sandals, Beaches and Couples Resorts, three chains that together operate the bulk of the all-inclusive offer. Sandals and Couples are adults-only (18 plus and 21 plus respectively), Beaches is family-friendly. Wedding packages are well-engineered and good value: Sandals offers a "Wedding Moon" package free with seven-night bookings, making Sandals one of the world's largest wedding operators with more than 18,000 weddings annually worldwide. Add-on packages for decoration, additional guests and premium menus start from EUR 2,400.
For couples wanting more character than the all-inclusive format provides, Round Hill Hotel and Villas, Half Moon Resort and Tryall Club are three legendary boutique resorts west of town. Round Hill, built in the 1950s and once part-owned by Ralph Lauren, has white colonial villas spread through a private estate and accepts wedding bookings for 40 to 100 guests with prices from EUR 360 per guest upwards. Half Moon has a 2-kilometre private beach and an on-site chapel reminiscent of an English country church.
Legal marriage in Jamaica is unusually simple: the couple need only have been in the country for 24 hours before the ceremony, and the paperwork can be handled by the hotel coordinator for around EUR 430. This makes Jamaica one of the few Caribbean destinations where international couples can easily achieve a legally binding wedding on site recognised in their home country (with apostille).
