The Bukit is closer to Bali's international airport near Denpasar than Ubud is, which makes it easy for guests to reach despite feeling remote, though traffic around the airport can still slow transfers. Indonesia's entry rules and visa fees depend on your passport and change from time to time, so ask guests to check the current rules before they travel. Weddings in Uluwatu - style, venues and atmosphere
The Uluwatu wedding style is spectacular and architectural. Clifftop resorts here have wedding chapels, glass pavilions, lawns and decks built out over the drop, with the ocean horizon as the only backdrop. These settings are in high demand, and prices vary widely with the resort, the date and the guest count, so ask for a written quote with your own date and book early.
There are simpler alternatives. Padang Padang, Bingin and Suluban are beaches tucked under the cliffs and reached by steps, and local coordinators arrange small beach ceremonies there. Ask how guests get down, what happens at high tide and whether the beach will be busy at your chosen time, and plan dinner afterwards at one of the clifftop restaurants.
The seasons follow the rest of Bali: the drier months run from around April to October and the wet season from around November to March. Uluwatu is often windy, which keeps it cooler than Ubud but can challenge a ceremony on the sand, so a sheltered clifftop setting is the safer choice. The Bukit is also a famous surf coast, and in the drier months big swells can make the beaches unsafe for swimming. In the evening, the Kecak dance is performed at Pura Luhur Uluwatu around sunset, which makes a good programme for guests the night before the wedding.
Legal or symbolic. Indonesian law only recognises a marriage performed according to a religion, with both partners holding the same religion, and a non-Muslim marriage must then be registered at the Civil Registry Office. - Padang Padang is small and busy during the day. If you want a beach ceremony there, ask your coordinator about an early-morning slot.
- Bingin and the other breaks below the cliffs are known surf spots. A surf lesson suits adventurous guests, but ask for beginners’ conditions rather than the reef breaks.
- The monkeys at Pura Luhur Uluwatu grab sunglasses, phones and jewellery. Tell guests to leave valuables at the hotel before the visit.
- Popular clifftop bars fill up at sunset. If you want a sunset drink with the whole group, book a private area or choose a quieter evening.
- Ride-hailing apps work on the Bukit and are an easy way for guests to move between hotels and restaurants in the evening; still arrange shared transport on the wedding night.
