Croatia
Hvar is Croatia's trendiest island, an Adriatic Mykonos with lavender fields, vineyards, beach clubs and Venetian old-town architecture. It is more relaxed than Mykonos but has become significantly more expensive between 2020 and 2026 as European luxury tourism has discovered it.
Hvar is reached by ferry from Split (1 hour) or via Brac airport. Budget EUR 25,000 to 50,000 for 60 guests. The style is boho-Mediterranean: natural materials, white linen, lavender as the running theme, sun-soaked lunch ceremonies.
Hvar's venues are mixed. Hvar Town (the capital) has historic palaces - Palace Paladini, Hektorovic Mansion - and is most popular for 30 to 60 guest weddings. The style is Venetian-influenced: limestone, vaults, rooftop terraces overlooking the Pakleni islands.
Beach club weddings happen at Bonj Les Bains, Carpe Diem Beach Club and Hula Hula. Carpe Diem on the Pakleni islands is the island's most famous sunset spot - DJ sets from 6pm, which makes it ideal for the after-party rather than the ceremony.
Stari Grad and Jelsa are the more rustic alternatives - old town settings with a slow tempo. Vineyard weddings at Tomic, Dubokovic or Caric Wines offer genuine Dalmatian wine experiences. Hire: EUR 6,000 to 15,000.
The food is the island's strong card - fresh fish, octopus, local lavender honey, Dalmatian peka. Local chefs and caterers are good value compared with western Europe. Civil weddings work via the Hvar town hall. The season is May to October; June and September are optimal. The bura wind can be strong - always have a plan B for outdoor ceremonies.
Couples who want island feel and luxury
80 000 - 230 000
Hvar town for luxury and nightlife, Stari Grad for tranquility. Book boat transport in advance - ferries can fill up.
We recommend Hvar for couples with 30 to 60 guests who want a trendy Mediterranean wedding with beach club energy in the evenings. Choose Hvar Town for historic old town, the Pakleni islands for exclusive beach club feel, Stari Grad for seclusion.
