Croatia
Dubrovnik is the pearl of the Adriatic - UNESCO-protected 16th-century walls, white marble streets and dramatic sea cliffs. The Game of Thrones effect transformed the city from cruise stop to global wedding destination, and by 2026 it is a mature industry with high prices.
Direct flights from London and Frankfurt run in summer. Budget EUR 30,000 to 70,000 for 60 guests - Dubrovnik has approached Italian price levels. The season is intense: May to October. The style is classic Mediterranean - stone, sea, Italian-influenced architecture but with a Balkan accent.
Dubrovnik's venues cluster in three areas. Old Town (inside the walls) offers palace weddings at Sponza Palace and Rector's Palace - historically magical but expensive and logistically complex (no vehicle access inside the walls).
Lapad and Babin Kuk are the peninsula west of the old town with beach hotels - Hotel Bellevue, Hotel Excelsior, Villa Dubrovnik. This is peak luxe with sea views and more practical infrastructure. Wedding package hire: EUR 20,000 to 50,000.
Cavtat is the fishing village 20 minutes south of Dubrovnik, more rustic and better value. Hotel Croatia Cavtat and private villas offer the same climate and views for 30 to 40% less.
Lokrum island (10 minutes by boat from the old town) is iconic for symbolic ceremonies - private beaches, palms, sea on every side. Boat transfer is usually included in the package. Legally, Croatia is in the EU and civil weddings work smoothly. May, June and September are optimal. July and August are extremely overcrowded with cruise tourists - avoid if possible.
Couples who love history and drama
90 000 - 290 000
Book wall ceremony early - very popular. Old town can be overcrowded July-August.
We recommend Dubrovnik for couples with 40 to 70 guests who want a historic Mediterranean backdrop and can absorb the price level. Choose the Lapad peninsula for logistics, the Old Town for drama, Cavtat for value-for-money authenticity. Book 12 to 18 months ahead.
