Dubrovnik airport lies at Čilipi, about 22.5 km from the Old Town, usually 30 to 35 minutes by road and up to an hour at peak times. Most of its international routes are seasonal: the winter timetable is thin, so check your guests' routes for your date before you fix it. The season is May to October. The style is classic Mediterranean - stone, sea and Venetian-influenced architecture with a Dalmatian accent.
Weddings in Dubrovnik - style, venues and atmosphere
Dubrovnik's settings cluster in three areas. The Old Town (inside the walls) gives you the most famous backdrop, but it is car-free and crowded in high season, so logistics for a whole party need planning.
Lapad and Babin Kuk, the peninsula west of the Old Town, and the hotels east of the walls offer sea views and more practical infrastructure, with ceremony, dinner and rooms in one place. Ask each hotel how many guests it can seat and sleep.
Cavtat, a small harbour town south of Dubrovnik and close to the airport, is quieter and a practical base for guests.
Lokrum, the island a short boat ride from the Old Town, is a protected reserve; ask its management directly what applies to a ceremony there before you plan around it. Legally, Croatian marriage law is national: the same Family Act, documents and procedure apply in Dubrovnik as anywhere else in the country. The wedding day as a rule falls between the 30th and 45th day after you register your intention to marry, so plan for that window. A ceremony away from the registry office is allowed, but the registrar decides, and the fee follows a national formula. May, June and September are the most comfortable months. July and August are the busiest, and Dubrovnik is Croatia's busiest cruise port, so check cruise days before you fix the date.
