Turkey
Bodrum is Turkey's Aegean answer to the French Riviera - a peninsula with 14 villages, 60 km of coastline and a marina that hosts some of the Mediterranean's largest private yachts during the summer. The region is Turkey's most sophisticated destination - strong food, design hotels and an international jet-set centred on Yalıkavak Marina (home of the Bodrum Cup regatta).
Direct flights from London Gatwick to Bodrum (BJV) run seasonally with easyJet, Jet2 and Turkish Airlines (3h 50min); from Frankfurt 3 hours; in winter, all routes connect via Istanbul. Outdoor wedding season runs May to mid-October; July and August hit 32-35°C with fully booked resorts. The optimal window is June and September - sea temperature 22-25°C, fewer crowds. June daylight is 14h 30min. Winter (December-February) is mild but most hotels close October to April.
The Bodrum peninsula offers Turkey's most sophisticated wedding experience. Mandarin Oriental Bodrum, Maxx Royal Bodrum, The Bodrum EDITION and Kempinski Hotel Barbaros Bay are 5-star options with private beaches, 5-8 restaurants and capacity for 50-250 guests (EUR 380-1,800 per room). Mandarin Oriental has its own chapel and private beach; The Bodrum EDITION (Ian Schrager) offers Marc Newson-designed interiors and a wedding terrace with 180-degree sea views.
For a boutique feel, look at Türkbükü and Yalıkavak villages. Macakizi Hotel (Türkbükü, 87 rooms) is the insider favourite, with a beach club where Bodrum's summer fashion benchmark is set every year. Lujo Hotel and Caresse a Luxury Collection Resort in Asarlık Bay offer all-villa concepts (EUR 850-2,800 per night) with private pools.
Yacht weddings are the Bodrum signature: Yalıkavak Marina charters Princess, Sunseeker and Ferretti yachts (15-35 metres) for 4-8 hour ceremonies stopping at Bodrum Bay, Black Island and Camel Beach. Budget EUR 4,500-18,000 for a day charter including captain, food and drinks for 12 people. Legal Turkish weddings need 7 days' notice; symbolic ceremonies are more common. Budget EUR 23,000-65,000 in total for 50 guests over 4 nights.
Couples who love bohemian luxury, beach life and international atmosphere
80 000 - 350 000 kr
Yalikavak has the most luxurious venues. Turgutreis and Gümüşlük are quieter alternatives. May and Sept-Oct offer the best weather.
We recommend Bodrum for couples aged 30-50 with 25-80 guests and a budget of EUR 23,000-65,000 wanting Mediterranean glamour and yacht culture without Italian price levels. Best months are June and September. Stay in Türkbükü or Yalıkavak for boutique feel, or Bodrum town hotel zone for walking access to the marina. Book 10-12 months ahead.
