Wedding in Tuscany

Tuscany remains the classic Italian wedding destination for international couples who want cypresses, vineyards and a ceremony that smells of rosemary and sun. The landscape around Val d'Orcia, Chianti and Siena has a golden quality you simply cannot fake, which is exactly why hundreds of couples from London, New York and Sydney return year after year.

Weddings here are built around villas and vineyards rather than hotels. A typical weekend means a welcome dinner on the terrace, a ceremony in the olive grove and long tables under the stars. Budget EUR 35,000 to 80,000 for 50 guests, depending on whether you rent a private villa or take over an entire estate. Pisa and Florence are the closest airports, and most guests will need to hire a car.

Tuscan weddings are about slowness. The ceremony usually starts at 5 or 6pm once the heat has dropped, followed by aperitivo with Prosecco and pecorino, then a long Italian dinner that easily runs four hours. Trying to force a tight Anglo timeline here is a mistake; let the rhythm take over.

For villa weddings, the area around Lucca, San Casciano and Montalcino is most in demand. Borgo Stomennano, Castello di Vicarello and Villa Catignano are well-known names that book 18 to 24 months ahead. If you want something less obvious, dozens of family-owned agriturismi will host 40 to 80 guests for half the price.

Legally, symbolic ceremonies are most common: couples marry at home first and treat the Tuscan day as the celebration. Civil weddings are possible at town halls in San Gimignano, Certaldo and Cortona, often with a view straight over the rooftops. Allow 6 to 8 months of paperwork and an Italian-speaking planner to handle the Atto Notorio.

May, June and September are the golden months. July and August are too hot for outdoor dining before 7pm, and several wineries decline weddings then because harvest is approaching. October gives soft light and the vendemmia as natural decor, which photographers love.

EUR 130-150 per head for the wedding meal in Tuscany and the neighbouring regions of Umbria and Piedmont. This is one couple's own research ahead of an enquiry in February 2026, not a quote we obtained, so treat it as a direction rather than a price.

EUR 10,000-12,000 for the venue including accommodation for 37 people is the budget assumption that same couple asked for help verifying. It is a question, not a price, and we repeat it because it is the level couples actually start from.

USD 15,000 in total for 55 guests over a week, in an olive villa sleeping the whole party, for a couple who married in Italy in 2025. Their own summary was that it is entirely possible, but not with Lake Como vibes.
