Italy
Puglia is southern Italy's once-hidden wedding destination, and in 2026 it is neither hidden nor cheap any longer - but it still has the authenticity Tuscany has begun to lose. Whitewashed masseria farms, the trulli of Alberobello and olive groves with 1,000-year-old trees define the landscape around Ostuni, Lecce and Polignano a Mare.
The climate is drier and warmer than the north. The season runs April to October, and the region itself is far less overcrowded than Amalfi or Como. Budget EUR 25,000 to 50,000 for 60 guests at a private masseria - significantly cheaper than Tuscany at the same level. Bari and Brindisi are the airports, with direct flights from London via Ryanair and easyJet.
Puglian weddings almost always take place on a masseria - fortified farms surrounded by olive groves and stone walls. Masseria Torre Coccaro, Masseria San Domenico, Borgo Egnazia and Masseria Potenti are the most established. Egnazia is resort-scale (great for 100+ guests), while the smaller estates host 30 to 60.
The aesthetic leans rustic-elegant: white limestone floors, terracotta pots full of lemons, local wines like Primitivo and Negroamaro. The food is spectacular: burrata from Andria, Adriatic seafood, orecchiette with rapini. A local catering budget of EUR 120 to 180 per guest delivers a meal that outshines most weddings back home.
The trulli villages around Alberobello and Locorotondo also offer unique venues for welcome dinners or after-parties. Whole trulli hamlets can be rented for 25 to 40 guests through Trullidea and similar local operators.
Legally, the town halls in Lecce and Ostuni perform civil weddings for foreign couples after 4 to 6 months of paperwork. For symbolic ceremonies, masseria gardens are perfect. May and September are optimal months; July and August are too hot for daytime ceremonies.
Couples who want something unique and budget-friendly
115 000 - 320 000
Alberobello is home to the unique trulli houses. June and September offer perfect weather without peak season prices.
We recommend Puglia for couples who want authentic Italian countryside for 40 to 80 guests without Tuscan pricing. Choose September for the olive harvest as decor and ideal temperatures. Take over a whole masseria if budget allows.
